The expansive, three-story contemporary complex encompasses well-landscaped, breeze-swept lawns with views across the Gulf of Nicoya. The lobby has comfortable seating, a well-stocked shop, a car rental desk, and two tour agencies, where arrangements to visit volcanoes, national parks, waterfalls, mountain resorts, and San Jose can be easily made.
The 300 standard rooms are homey and decorated with tile floors, simple furnishings, a marble-topped dressers, TV, and bright floral spreads on two double beds. All rooms have air conditioning, vanities, and private baths, and most have views either of the ocean or the garden. The third floor features suites, and the 30 two-bedroom units feature kitchenettes.
Dining is in the seafood bar, open-air buffet restaurant, and formal, air-conditioned Italian room. The centerpiece here is a huge free-form pool with a man-made beach, boulders, landscaped islets, and a thatched island bar with a sundeck reached by bridges. Additional facilities include a lively bar shaped like a galleon, a casino, disco, theater, two smaller pools, a whirlpool, gym, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. Croquet, horseback riding, and badminton can be arranged, and water sports include sail-boarding, kayaking, water-skiing and jet-skiing right off the hotel pier. Baby-sitters and a physician are on call. Modest meeting space in four rooms can accommodate up to 80 people.
