Itinerary:
Day 1 Depart USA
Overnight flight to Madrid. Airfare from New York not included.

Day 2 Arrive Madrid
After your arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. This evening enjoy a Welcome Reception with your Tour Director.

Day 3 Madrid
Our morning sightseeing in the beautiful Spanish capital takes us to view the Royal Palace, Puerta del Sol and Plaza Espana with its monument to Cervantes, and the palatial Prado Museum with its priceless works of art. Your afternoon is at leisure. (B)

Day 4 Madrid/Toledo/Cordoba
This morning we head south to the ancient Castilian capital of Toledo. Our sightseeing here views the 13th-century Gothic Cathedral with time for shopping for the famous damascened Toledo steel. Then, we continue south through the rugged landscapes of Don Quixote’s La Mancha to the Andalusian city of Cordoba. (B,D)

Day 5 Cordoba/Granada
Cordoba, situated in the fertile valley of the River Guadalquivir, has an extensive array of architectural monuments built by the Romans, the Moors and early Christians. Our sightseeing tour visits the magnificent 8th-century Mosque of the Caliphs. Then travel through Andalusian olive groves on our way to Moorish hill-top Granada. (B,D)

Day 6 Granada/Costa del Sol
This morning we visit the famed Alhambra. A fantasy of “lace in stone”, surrounded by arabesque gardens and fountains, the Alhambra affords superb views of the Old Quarter and Sacromonte, a mountain occupied by Gypsy cave dwellers. Then, we travel south to the vibrant Costa del Sol for a leisurely 3-night stay. (B)

Day 7
Costa del Sol (Tangier, Morocco Included)... An exciting morning drive to Algeciras for the ferry crossing to North Africa. We drive via Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea, to the exotic Moroccan city of Tangier. Time to visit the Casbah and shop for spices, magical carpets and famous Moroccan leather. Enjoy an included lunch before returning to your Costa del Sol hotel for the evening. (B,L)

Day 8 Costa del Sol
A full Day at leisure to enjoy the European atmosphere of this Mediterranean paradise. Shop or swim to your heart’s content! (B)

Day 9
Costa del Sol/Gibraltar/Seville A short drive along the Mediterranean coast to the British city of Gibraltar where we view the famed Rock, visit St. Michael’s Cave and see the Barbary Apes! Back in Spain, we travel through the vineyards of Jerez, known for its sherry, to a pleasant 2-night stay in Seville.(B,D)

Day 10 Seville
Our morning sightseeing tour is a step back in time as we observe 700 years of influence by the Moors. Admire the pools and fountains of Maria Luisa Park, the Palace of Alcazar, Murillo’s house and visit the impressive tomb of Christopher Columbus housed in Spain’s largest Gothic Cathedral. Tonight, you have the opportunity to experience an authentic Andalusian flamenco show. (B)

Day 11 Seville/Lisbon
ToDay we travel across the border and into the Alentejo, granary of Portugal. Almond trees and cork oaks sustain traditional villages along our route. Finally, we arrive in Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon, awash with pastel villas!(B) x

Day 12 Lisbon
Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour that visits the picturesque medieval quarter and Vasco da Gama’s tomb inside the Hieronymite Monastery as well as the Tower of Belem on the Tagus River. (B)

Day 13 Lisbon/Fatima/Salamanca
We travel north toDay with a picturesque drive through the Sierra d’Aire Mountains on our way to the Shrine at Fatima with a visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. Then, we travel back into Spain and on to Salamanca where we find the Baroque Plaza Mayor, one of Spain’s grandest squares. (B,D)

Day 14 Salamanca/El Escorial/Madrid
A short drive this morning to the royal city of El Escorial with its great monastery-palace built by Philip II in 1557. Our sightseeing includes a visit to the memorial, built by Franco, to those who fell in the Spanish Civil War. Leaving the Valley of the Fallen, we take the short drive back to Madrid for a highlight farewell dinner! (B,D)

Day 15 Madrid/USA
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
